Why Kochi, and Why Now

Let’s start with something most AI course pages in Kerala won’t tell you.

Kochi is not Bangalore. Bangalore has thousands of open AI roles. Kochi has a few hundred across the whole of Kerala, depending on how you count. Anyone selling you a course here on the promise of a booming local AI market is stretching it.

So why does this page exist?

Because the competition is proportionally lower too, and because Kochi gives you four routes rather than one. A role inside Infopark or SmartCity. A move to Bangalore with real skills instead of hope. A remote job for a company based somewhere else. Or the Gulf, which for a lot of Malayali readers is not a fallback but the main plan.

The infrastructure is real. Infopark runs across two phases at Kakkanad with several hundred companies. A third phase is being planned with GCDA, positioned as an AI township. Kerala has a draft GCC policy and a stated ambition well past a hundred capability centres by 2031. None of that is a job today. It does suggest the direction.

Kochi’s two AI specialities

Every city has something. Chennai has automotive AI. Bangalore has everything. Kochi has two things worth knowing about.

01

Travel, aviation and logistics

IBS Software is headquartered at Infopark and builds platforms for airlines, travel companies and logistics operators worldwide. That domain throws up genuinely interesting machine learning problems: demand forecasting, dynamic pricing, predicting disruption before it cascades, crew and cargo optimisation. It’s the kind of ML experience that travels well to any city afterwards.

02

Malayalam and multilingual NLP

Kerala product companies building for a Malayalam-speaking market need language models that actually work in Malayalam. The supply of people who can do that is small. Small supply plus real demand is usually where a specialism pays.

AI, Machine Learning or Data Science — Which Do You Actually Want?

A fair number of people who search for an AI course in Kochi don’t want one. They want something adjacent, and nobody tells them before they’ve paid. So, roughly, three paths.

A

Data analyst

SQL, Excel, Power BI or Tableau, and the ability to answer a business question with numbers. Lots of jobs in Kochi. Lower entry barrier, lower ceiling, and honestly a good first step if you’re switching from a non-technical role. This course is not that, though the Phase 1 SQL work overlaps.

B

Machine learning engineer

Python, building and training models, getting them into production. This is the core of what we teach. It suits people who already write some code, or who are willing to get comfortable with code fairly quickly.

C

AI or LLM engineer

Working with existing large models rather than training from scratch: RAG systems, agents, fine-tuning, integrating an LLM into a product. This is the fastest-growing slice of Kochi listings right now, and Phase 4 is built around it. Background reading: how to become an AI engineer.

If you read those and the first one sounds most like the job you want, say so during the demo call. We’d rather point you at a data analytics route than sell you sixteen weeks of the wrong thing. If it’s the data infrastructure underneath all of this that interests you, that’s a separate discipline, and our data engineering course in Kochi covers it.

AI Salaries in Kochi — 2026

This section is going to be less exciting than the one on a competitor’s page. That’s deliberate.

First, the data problem. Kochi-specific AI salary samples are thin. Glassdoor’s Kerala listings for AI and ML engineer roles run to dozens rather than thousands, and broader machine learning searches across the state return a few hundred. Those are real numbers and they’re not big ones. Anybody quoting you five thousand open AI jobs in Kochi is quoting Chennai’s figure with the city swapped.

AI/ML Engineer (0–2 yrs) · ₹3.5 – 6 LPA — fewer entry roles here than in software; many enter through a Python or data role.
ML Engineer (3–5 yrs) · ₹7 – 14 LPA — where the gap between AI and general software pay starts opening.
GenAI / LLM Engineer · ₹8 – 18 LPA — fastest-growing category in Kochi listings; RAG and agent experience commands a premium.
MLOps Engineer (3–6 yrs) · ₹8 – 16 LPA — scarce skill in Kerala; overlaps with DevOps.
Senior ML / AI Engineer (5–8 yrs) · ₹14 – 24 LPA — product companies and larger GCCs.
AI Lead / Architect (8+ yrs) · ₹22 – 35 LPA — small number of roles; often remote or Bangalore-linked.

Directional ranges compiled from public Kochi and Kerala listings, September 2026.

The thing nobody warns you about: annotation jobs

Open Indeed, search “AI jobs Kochi”, and scroll. You’ll find AI Data Quality Associates, annotation and labelling roles, transaction processing roles with AI in the title, and “AI operations” jobs that involve tagging datasets. Pay commonly sits between ₹8,000 and ₹25,000 a month.

These are real jobs and somebody has to do them. They are not engineering roles, and no course turns one into the other, including ours.

Here’s how to tell the difference in about ten seconds. Engineering roles ask for Python, name a framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, LangChain), mention deployment or cloud, and talk about building or training something. Annotation roles ask for attention to detail, mention quality standards or guidelines, and describe reviewing, labelling or verifying data. The word “AI” appears in both. Everything else is different.

If you’re a fresher, an annotation or internship role is sometimes a legitimate foot in the door, and there’s no shame in it. Just go in knowing which one you’ve accepted.

A note on entry-level pay

Entry-level AI in Kochi often pays about the same as, or slightly less than, entry-level DevOps or backend work. That surprises people who’ve read that AI is the highest-paying field in tech.

It separates later. Around the three-year mark, once GenAI and MLOps work is on your CV, the gap opens noticeably. The first two years are the patient part.

On cost of living: a ₹7 lakh salary in Kochi, living at home or renting near Kakkanad, frequently leaves more in the bank at month end than ₹9.5 lakh in Bangalore once rent and commuting are paid for. Run your own numbers rather than taking anyone’s word for it.

AI Job Market in Kochi — Who Is Actually Hiring

Infopark Phase 1 & 2, Kakkanad

The centre of it. TCS, UST, Cognizant and Wipro all have Kochi operations, and several hundred smaller firms sit around them.

Worth setting expectations about the work. AI roles at Infopark are mostly applied rather than research: integrating an LLM into an existing product, building Python data pipelines, prompt engineering, model monitoring, fine-tuning something that already exists. You are unlikely to be training a foundation model. You are quite likely to be making one behave inside a client’s product.

That’s good news for a career switcher. Applied AI work rewards engineering discipline more than a PhD.

IBS Software

Its own paragraph, because it’s the most distinctive AI employer in the state. Kochi-headquartered, building for airlines, travel and logistics globally. Forecasting, optimisation and disruption prediction problems at real scale, with customers in several time zones.

The product and startup cluster

Names that keep appearing in Kochi AI listings: Cubet Techno Labs, Litmus7, Stanra Tech, Inforizon, Softobiz, Cloudium, alongside a base of smaller firms supported by Kerala Startup Mission around Kakkanad and Kalamassery.

Small teams mean you touch everything. Data cleaning on Monday, a fine-tune on Wednesday, explaining to a client on Friday why the model can’t do what they saw on LinkedIn. You learn fast.

What the listings actually ask for

Read twenty Kochi AI job ads and the same requirements repeat: Python, TensorFlow or PyTorch, LLMs, LangChain and increasingly LangGraph, agentic AI, RAG pipelines, computer vision for some roles, Azure or AWS, and SQL more often than people expect.

Notice what’s mostly absent: deep theory, published research, statistics degrees. Kochi hires builders.

Internships, and the honest entry route

Kochi has an active AI internship market, typically ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 a month, at Infopark and SmartCity companies. For a fresher with no portfolio, that is often the realistic first step rather than a ₹12 lakh offer.

Which is not a reason to skip the course. It’s a reason to finish it with projects strong enough that you skip the internship, or convert one quickly.

Company names indicate a Kochi presence only. None is a hiring or referral partner of ShiftToTech Academy.

The Gulf Route

A good share of the people reading this are in Dubai, Sharjah, Riyadh, Doha or Muscat rather than Kochi, so this section is for you.

What Gulf employers hiring AI people ask for is broadly what Indian employers ask for: Python, ML fundamentals, and increasingly LLM and RAG experience. Two differences worth knowing.

Certifications count for more there. When a hiring manager may never meet you before making an offer, an external credential does work that a conversation would otherwise do. And portfolios count for more still. A deployed project with a URL somebody in another country can open is worth a great deal when you’re a name on a list of two hundred applicants.

The timings work

This is the practical reason Gulf-based learners join Indian batches at all.

UAE — a 7 PM IST class starts at 5:30 PM
Saudi Arabia4:30 PM
Qatar and Bahrain5:30 PM

After work, not the middle of the night. Weekend batches land similarly, though check against your own weekly off because Friday sits differently there. Everything is recorded. Attend live when you can, though, because the recording doesn’t include the bit where your specific error gets fixed on the call.

What we won’t tell you

No Gulf salary figures. What you’d earn in Dubai or Riyadh depends on the employer, the visa, whether family is with you, and how the package splits between basic and allowances. Anyone quoting a guaranteed number is guessing. No visa advice either. That’s a question for a proper consultant.

AI Course Curriculum — 16 Weeks, Python to Production

Four phases. The tools are the ones currently appearing in Kochi and Gulf job ads, which is a lower bar than it sounds, given how many syllabi still stop at scikit-learn and a Kaggle notebook.

Phase 1 · Weeks 1–4 · Python, data and the maths you actually need

Python from scratch: syntax, data structures, functions, then NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib and Seaborn
Data cleaning, feature engineering, exploratory analysis
SQL for analytics, including window functions and CTEs, because more AI roles ask for SQL than people expect
Git, because your portfolio lives there
The maths arrives here in the doses you need it: linear algebra for how models represent data, probability and statistics for evaluating them. Taught when it becomes necessary, not as a four-week prerequisite that makes half the batch quit

Phase 2 · Weeks 5–8 · Classical machine learning

Regression, decision trees, random forests, XGBoost and LightGBM, SVMs
Clustering with K-Means and DBSCAN, dimensionality reduction with PCA
Model evaluation done properly: ROC-AUC, F1, cross-validation, and why accuracy is usually the wrong metric to report
Hyperparameter tuning with Optuna, then a deployed FastAPI project, because a model on your laptop is not a model anyone will pay for
Time-series forecasting, framed around travel and logistics problems, which is where Kochi’s most interesting ML work lives

Phase 3 · Weeks 9–12 · Deep learning and NLP

Neural networks from the ground up: backpropagation, activations, why deep networks work at all
CNNs for computer vision including ResNet and YOLO
RNNs and LSTMs for sequences
Transformers in proper depth, because everything after 2018 is built on them: BERT, GPT architectures, HuggingFace, transfer learning and fine-tuning
Multilingual NLP, with Malayalam work included, for the reasons in the first section

Phase 4 · Weeks 13–16 · GenAI, LLMs and MLOps

The part of the curriculum that dates fastest, so it gets reviewed every batch
LLM architectures and how they differ. Fine-tuning with LoRA and QLoRA
RAG properly: chunking strategies, embedding models, vector databases like FAISS, ChromaDB and Pinecone, and why most RAG systems fail at retrieval rather than generation
LangChain and LlamaIndex. Agentic AI with LangGraph. Prompt engineering as an engineering practice rather than a trick list
Then MLOps, which is the thing that separates people who can build a model from people who get hired to: MLflow for tracking, Docker, cloud deployment, CI/CD for ML
Four capstone projects and mock interviews close the course

If the MLOps part interests you more than the modelling, our DevOps course in Kochi may actually be the better fit.

What we don’t teach

No six-week statistics detour before you write a line of code. No research-track material you’ll never use. No tool that hasn’t appeared in a job ad in the last year.

Tool stack

Prerequisites — Including the Maths Question

The maths question comes up in almost every demo call, so let’s settle it.

You need school-level algebra and the ability to think logically about a problem. That’s the actual floor. You do not need calculus. You do not need a statistics background. Linear algebra, probability and statistics are taught inside the course, at the point where they explain something you’re already doing, which is when they finally make sense.

If you failed maths at school and have avoided it since, this course is still workable. If the phrase “I’m not a maths person” is doing a lot of load-bearing work in your head, the honest answer is that the maths is smaller than the fear.

01

Coding

None required. Python starts from zero. If you already write Java, C# or PHP, you’ll move faster through Phase 1, but plenty of people start from nothing.

02

Laptop

Anything with 8 GB of RAM. Heavy training runs on Colab and cloud GPUs, which is how actual AI teams work anyway. You don’t need a GPU machine and you shouldn’t buy one for this.

03

Time

Ten to fifteen hours a week outside class. This is the requirement people underestimate, every single batch. Those who can’t find the time don’t usually fail; they just take far longer than they planned.

04

English

Documentation, papers and error messages are all in English. The reading is technical and repetitive, so it gets familiar quickly.

Who should wait. If you’re mid-notice-period, or in a release crunch, take the next batch. Phases 2 and 3 build on each other and missing three weeks in the middle is painful.

Is a Free AI Course Enough to Get a Job?

For some people, yes. Which is an odd thing to write on a page selling a paid course, so let me explain.

Kerala has genuinely good free and subsidised options. K-DISC and ASAP Kerala run programmes, Kerala Startup Mission supports others, and beyond that there’s Coursera auditing, DeepLearning.AI’s free material and a great deal of YouTube. If you’re not yet sure whether you enjoy this work, start there. Spend three weeks, build something small, find out.

What free content reliably gives you: literacy. Concepts, vocabulary, the ability to follow a conversation about AI.

What it doesn’t give you: someone reading your code and telling you why it’s bad. A deadline. A batch of people stuck on the same thing. Interview practice with someone who has sat on the other side of the table. And a portfolio that has been pushed back at you twice before it was good enough.

The pattern I see most often is people who used free material to confirm interest, then joined something structured to become employable. That order works well. The reverse, paying first and discovering you don’t like the work in week three, is expensive.

Who Should Join This AI Course

Python or full-stack developers at Infopark companies

The shortest switch on this list. You already write code; you’re adding models and deployment to it.

Data analysts and BI people

You know SQL and you know the business. What’s missing is modelling and production. This tends to be the fastest jump in salary terms.

Testers and support engineers

Very doable, and slower than the marketing suggests. Budget extra time for Phase 1 and don’t compare your pace to the developers in your batch.

Freshers from CUSAT, RSET, FISAT, SCMS, MEC and other KTU colleges

Your problem isn’t the degree, it’s the absence of proof. The portfolio is what this course exists to give you.

Malayali professionals in the Gulf

Evening classes work from your time zone, and certifications plus portfolio carry more weight in Gulf hiring.

People who came back from Bangalore

Remote AI roles are real once you have experience, and Kochi’s own base is growing slowly.

And who this isn’t for. If you want a certificate for an appraisal and don’t intend to build the projects, a cheaper self-paced course is a better use of your money. If you’re expecting a ₹20 lakh AI job in Kochi four months from now, that isn’t going to happen, and I’d rather say so than take the fee.

AI Career Path in Kochi

Year 0–2

Junior AI/ML Engineer · ₹3.5–6 LPA. Data preparation, model training support, Python pipelines, prompt work. Often entered sideways through a Python or data role.

Year 3–5

ML Engineer · ₹7–14 LPA. Owning models end to end, an NLP or CV specialisation, production deployments. Remote and Gulf doors start opening here.

Year 5–8

Senior ML / GenAI Engineer · ₹14–24 LPA. LLM fine-tuning, RAG systems at scale, MLOps ownership. Product companies and larger GCCs.

Year 8+

AI Lead / Architect · ₹22–35 LPA. Architecture, strategy, mentoring. A small number of roles in Kochi; often remote or Bangalore-linked.

Be realistic about the first stage. It’s the hardest one in Kochi, because entry-level AI roles are fewer here than entry-level software roles. Many people get in by joining a company as a Python developer or analyst and moving across internally once they’ve proven they can build. That’s not a failure route. In a service-company city it’s often the fastest one.

Why Online Beats a Kakkanad Classroom

Classroom institutes in Kochi are not the enemy. Some are good, one operates from inside Infopark, and if you learn best in a room with other people, that’s a real reason to choose one. Two things to weigh against it.

The commute, first. Anyone who has crossed Vyttila at 6 PM, or driven in from Aluva on a weekday evening, knows what a daily trip costs. Across sixteen weeks it adds up to something like a second course you never signed up for.

Aluva → Kakkanad · 8–12 hrs a week lost
Tripunithura → Infopark · 6–10 hrs
Edappally → SmartCity · 4–8 hrs
Fort Kochi → Kakkanad · 8–12 hrs
Online, from home · 0

Batch size, second, and this matters more. Ask any institute you’re comparing exactly how many students are in a batch. “Small batch” has meant anything from eight to a hundred in conversations I’ve had. In AI it matters because debugging why your model won’t converge is a conversation, not a slide. Ours is capped at ten and we say the number.

How to Choose an AI Institute in Kochi

Red flag: a guaranteed job, in any wording. Look for: placement support described as a process, with numbers they’ll stand behind.
Red flag: “small batches” with no number. Look for: a stated maximum, given without hesitation.
Red flag: syllabus stops at scikit-learn and Power BI. Look for: LLMs, RAG, agents and MLOps alongside classical ML.
Red flag: recorded videos with a weekly doubt session. Look for: live classes where you can interrupt.
Red flag: fee revealed only on a phone call. Look for: a published price.
Red flag: no deployed projects, only notebooks. Look for: a GitHub portfolio an interviewer can open.
Red flag: salary claims of ₹30–40 LPA for freshers. Look for: ranges that match what Kochi listings actually pay.

On the first row: we publish a post arguing that placement guarantees are mostly marketing, which you can read at the truth about placement guarantees. Having published that, promising you a job here would be a bit rich. What you get instead is resume work, mock interviews, referrals where we have them, and honest numbers. When you reach the interview stage, our guide to cracking AI and ML interviews covers the formats.

Frequently Asked Questions — AI Course in Kochi

What is the AI course fee in Kochi?
₹35,000 for the full 16-week live programme, including cloud lab access, all projects and placement support. EMI options are available and there is a 7-day refund window. The fee is published here rather than behind a callback form.
How long is the course and what is the schedule?
Sixteen weeks, part-time, at roughly ten to fifteen hours a week including class time. Weekend and weekday evening batches are both available, all live online, capped at ten students.
Do I need maths or coding to start?
School-level algebra is enough. Linear algebra, probability and statistics are taught inside the course where they are needed. No coding background required either; Python starts from zero.
Is this an AI course, a machine learning course or data science?
Mostly ML and AI engineering: building models and getting them into production, then LLMs, RAG and agents. If what you actually want is dashboards and business analysis, tell us on the demo call and we will point you somewhere better suited.
What is the AI engineer salary in Kochi?
Roughly ₹3.5–6 lakh at entry level, ₹7–14 lakh with three to five years, and higher for GenAI and MLOps specialists. Kochi pays less than Bangalore and costs considerably less to live in.
Which companies hire AI engineers in Kochi?
TCS, UST, Cognizant and Wipro have Kochi operations, IBS Software is headquartered at Infopark, and a cluster of smaller product firms around Kakkanad and Kalamassery hire regularly. Most of the work is applied AI rather than research.
Why do so many Kochi AI listings pay only ₹15,000 a month?
Because a good number of them are data annotation, labelling or AI data-verification roles rather than engineering. Engineering ads name Python, a framework and deployment. Annotation ads talk about quality standards and guidelines. Worth checking before you apply.
Can freshers from KTU colleges get AI jobs in Kochi?
Yes, though the entry-level market here is smaller than for software roles. Many freshers start via an internship or a Python role and move into ML internally. A strong deployed portfolio shortens that considerably.
Should I stay in Kochi or move to Bangalore for an AI career?
Bangalore has far more roles and pays more. Kochi costs much less and has lower competition per opening. A common path is building two years of experience here, then deciding with actual leverage rather than as a fresher.
I’m working in the Gulf. Can I attend from there?
Yes. A 7 PM IST class is 5:30 PM in the UAE and 4:30 PM in Saudi Arabia, so you can join live after work. Sessions are recorded if your shift clashes.
Is a free AI course enough to get hired?
Good for figuring out whether you like the work, and we would genuinely suggest starting there if you are unsure. What free material does not give you is code review, deadlines, interview practice and a portfolio someone pushed back on twice.
Do I need a powerful laptop or a GPU?
No. Any laptop with 8 GB of RAM works. Training runs on Colab and cloud GPUs, which is how real teams do it anyway. Do not buy hardware for this course.
What projects will I build?
Four deployed projects: an end-to-end ML model served through an API, an NLP or LLM application with a RAG pipeline, a generative AI application deployed to the cloud, and a capstone you choose. All on your GitHub, all with links you can open in an interview.
Do you guarantee a job?
No. Whether you get hired depends on your interviews and the market as well as the training. What we commit to is resume and profile work, mock interviews, referrals where we have them, and support that continues after the course ends.
How is this different from classroom institutes in Kochi?
Batches capped at ten, and we say the number. A published fee. A 2026 syllabus that includes LLMs, RAG, agents and MLOps rather than stopping at classical ML. And live classes rather than recordings with a doubt session attached.
