Its successor is DP-700, the Fabric Data Engineer Associate, reflecting Microsoft's wholesale bet on the Fabric platform. Yet walk through the institute listings today and DP-203 prep is still on the menu; some training pages haven't been touched since the exam died.
And here's the genuinely confusing part for candidates: the job descriptions haven't caught up either. Live Hyderabad postings — we found a senior Azure data engineer role at a global real-estate firm doing exactly this — still list "DP-203 or equivalent" in their requirements, asking for a credential you can no longer sit. The current Microsoft data engineering credential is DP-700, Fabric Data Engineer Associate, built around Microsoft Fabric — the platform consolidating Data Factory, Synapse, and the lakehouse model under one roof. If an institute is selling you "DP-203 training with placement," you are buying prep for a dead exam, and that tells you everything about how often they update the rest of their syllabus.
The interview reality: JDs will keep saying "DP-203" for a while, the way job posts said "Hadoop" years after the projects moved to Spark. When a posting asks for it, the correct read is "we want certified-grade Azure data skills," not the literal exam code. Saying, in an interview, "DP-203 was retired — I've targeted DP-700 since that's the current credential" doesn't just dodge the problem; it signals you track the platform more closely than the person who wrote the JD.
Should you get DP-700 at all? The aggregator headline says about ₹9 lakh average — from a sample of roughly 159 self-reports, accompanied by Glassdoor's usual statistically deranged comparison line (this time the figure is "476% higher than the national average," which tells you more about their denominator than about your offer). The structure underneath behaves like every Indian data market: segment and experience decide everything, with the Azure label adding a premium inside enterprise segments because that's where the Azure estates live.

So choose by target employer, not by ideology: GCC corridor and enterprise services in Hyderabad → make your projects speak Azure, target DP-700.
